Operation Overlord began in the early morning of 6 June 1944, as the first Allied landing craft headed for the Normandy beaches. Cameramen and photographers tasked with recording the experience were embedded with the British troops. The images taken by veteran photographers Peter Norris, Harry Oakes, John Aldred and Peter Handford show us D-Day through the eyes of British troops as they fought their way off the beaches against stiff German resistance.
