Just when you think the story couldn’t get more dramatic, K2 provides further theatrics. Many experienced climbers have perished while scaling the mountain, and Mike and the team can’t afford to take any chances when it comes to the weather. Through trial and suffering, the four men have become one unit, drawn to the peak like metal to a magnet. As conditions deteriorate, Mike is philosophical as ever: “We don’t mind building our lives on failure, if failure is this beautiful.”
