The Florida Gopher Turtle is an endangered and federally protected species due mainly to rapid habitat loss as Florida continues non-stop development. They live to be 60+ years old and this one is a big full-grown adult of around 18 inches long so could be 40 or 50 years old or more. Hard to tell if male or female without closer investigation, but I dont' want to get too close or pick it up. Fortunately these gentle giants do not have to cross any roads around here, which helps them to live long lives. This is probably not the same one that visited two years ago because that one was considerably smaller and the grow rather slowly https://youtu.be/Tt1LvyF3A6A
