Children who fall into the hands of the Islamic State are indoctrinated and trained to fight.
They are between four and sixteen years old. The so-called Islamic State (IS) calls them "Ashbal" - lion cubs - and uses coercion, abuse and persuasion to turn them into killing machines intended for the terrorist organization’s front-line combat. What will become of these children for whom violence and hatred have become normality? Western intelligence agencies warn that the IS "cubs" are ticking time bombs. Many of them have been left to fend for themselves. The filmmakers Thomas Dandois and François-Xavier Trégan managed to gain the trust of some of the traumatized children and their families. The documentary tells the stories of these youngsters who have experienced IS from inside. In Germany, Greece, Belgium and Turkey the filmmakers accompanied them in everyday situations and spoke with them about their experiences and their lives today. The moving reports shed light on Islamic State’s terrifying machinery that turns children into cold-blooded murderers. They show how the terrorist group plans to use the child soldiers - and they show how urgently these children need to be helped to overcome the Islamist doctrines of hatred.
