Let's show a little love for the stunningly beautiful female Painted Bunting - affectionately called "Greenies" for their emerald-like coloration. Male Painted Buntings were called Nonpareils by John Audubon - or without equal - generally considered the most colorful songbird in North America. Long subject to capture for the caged bird trade, Painted Buntings are still illegally trapped and sold on the black market today, even in Florida. I have been following my little migrating flocks for years and they appear to be doing well. The females are stunning birds in their own right. #bird #birding
