Sabre-Toothed Squirrels went extinct with the dinosaurs about 65 million years ago - you can see the family resemblance. A fascinating tour of the complete antique skeleton of a Gray Squirrel created in the late 19th Century. Squirrels are incredibly athletic and versatile omnivores (see: https://youtu.be/lWwyiImdCz8 ). As you observe the skeleton passing before you in great detail you will no doubt notice a number of things that stand out about squirrel physiology - noteworthy are the razor sharp claws 4 in the front and five in the rear, there is a remnant "thumb" on the front paws. The rear ankles that allow their feet to reverse to either run up or down trees, and exquisite tail structure, those huge eye sockets and razor sharp incisors and a set of molars for chewing at the back of the jaw. There is much more to explore and appreciate.
