I like to stay at the Atlanta Hotel in Bangkok. Ask for one of the 'D' rooms which have a balcony and fan for natural air flow. Then travel via bicycle or BTS to Ekkamai bus station. Buses leave every hour generally and its about 210bath + 100baht for your bicycle. Sometimes they charge for bicycle and sometimes not.
