Women's rights in Saudi Arabia are limited. They have to have a male guardian. But Zainab Alkhudairi has taken control of her destiny. She's an exceptional woman in many ways.
Zainab Alkhudairi is a professor at Saudi Arabia's oldest university. She teaches medical management for women, and she is the author of a weekly column for the newspaper 'Al-Riyadh'. Zainab writes about relations between men and women in Saudi Arabia. She seldom dares to voice open criticism. Instead, she questions the extensive lack of women's rights in her home country only indirectly. Male guardians make decisions for women on wide-ranging issues. Only in recent months has Saudi leadership begun to cautiously introduce social reforms. Starting this June, for example, women will be allowed to drive cars. Zainab Alkhudairi looks to the next generation -- she divorced her husband and is raising her 13-year-old daughter alone.
