Malaysian Airline Crash Shot Down Over Ukraine reaction.

At least 27 Australians were among 298 people on board a Malaysia Airlines passenger jet which was shot down over Ukraine with the loss of all on board.

Flight MH17 was en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur when it was apparently blown out of the sky by a missile over rebel-held territory near Ukraine's border with Russia.

Ukrainian wire taps appear to have captured pro-Russian separatists claiming responsibility for downing the jet, but there has been no official confirmation.

However, Prime Minister Tony Abbott told Parliament that it appears Russian-backed rebels were behind the tragedy.

US vice president Joe Biden earlier said the aircraft was "blown out of the sky" and it was "not an accident".
