Mercedes-Benz US Plant in Tuscaloosa: Celebrating the Past – Electrifying the Future

Twenty years ago the first SUV rolled off the line in the Mercedes-Benz plant (Mercedes-Benz U.S. International – MBUSI) in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. This success story is going to be continued: Mercedes-Benz plans to invest $1 billion in the expansion of the manufacturing footprint in the region. The announcement was made by Markus Schäfer, production chief of Mercedes-Benz Cars, at a press conference and enthusiastically received by 3,500 team members during the anniversary celebration. Most of the investment is slated for the production of full electric SUV models under the EQ subbrand as well as for a battery plant. The investment creates more than 600 new jobs in the region.
