This is a clip from a recent evening where the male GHO roosts till after dark and then takes off to start hunting for food. Their nest is located in such an awkward position that I can actually get a clear look at it. Even the male is hard to find most days.
While GHOs will catch and eat screech owls there is plenty of other tastier fare back in the forest clearing such as rats and mice and especially snakes, I think that is their favorite meal of all. I think the Screech Owls will be fine with the huge GHOs raising their family right next to them.
