Success in endurance racing demands an extraordinary car and superhuman driving, but winning the world's toughest and most famous endurance race repeatedly is the making of legends.
Such is undoubtedly true of Jacky Ickx, who drove to victory for Porsche in the 24 Heures du Mans not once, but four times. Winning in 1976,v1977 and 1981 in the Porsche 936, and in 1982 driving the 956, Ickx helped establish the Porsche dominance of the event that would continue throughout the 1980s.
Here he reflects on a car with which he shares his legendary status, and looks forward to Porsche's return to endurance racing next year - and the remaking of a legend.
