Our results were totally opposite than what we expected!!! Why did this happen? Let us know your predictions down below!!

About 3 years ago we created a video where we made a large play button completely out of pure sodium metal.During our testing phase we learned exactly how explosive sodium submerged into water really is!
For our finale or money shot we dropped our full 1 pounds play-button into a tub of water and the reaction was pretty insane. However, there was a mystery surrounding this particular clip that I didn’t notice until of course, the comment section reviewed the video under a microscope. When the explosion happened there appeared to be a large shiny flat object that flew away. At first I thought this was a piece of the plastic container, but after re-exaiminng the footage I’m now square unsure. On the day of the shoot I remember walking about looking for any unreacted pierced of sodium, because one it’s pretty expensive but also, we could save them for another day. So the jury is still out on whether our sodium playbutton fully reacted or if it sorta reacted and then flew away into the desert somewhere. The way this reaction works is actually insanely interesting. When the sodium goes into the water, the water pulls away electrons out of the metal leaving it positively charged. And just like two positive ends of a magnet that repel each other the metal begins to repel itself and initiates the explosion. This is followed by hydrogen gas creation that ignites under the exothermic conditions leading to steam, sparks and a really cool looking fiery explosion. So knowing this information on how the sodium actually explodes got me wondering what would be the optimal shape of the sodium for maximum explosion?I've seen videos from the action lab where a perfectly flat piece of sodium is hit with water and it appeared to not explode as much. This makes me think that perhaps a more uniform piece of sodium would have more momentum to rip itself apart hence a larger explosion. And that the most uniform shape, a sphere, would have the highest explosion potential. So here’s what we're gonna do: we're going to test three pieces of sodium all the same weight, but in three different shapes. One a sphere, the other an elongated cube, and the other really flat pancake shape. We’re going to wrap them in these plastic nets to maximize water contact and weight them down with lead weights. To make sure they don’t explode too close to the surface of the water filled container.
