The Fall of Wirecard: A story of seers, deceivers and the deceived | Documentary | DokThema | BR

This is the first documentary on post-war Germany's biggest corporate fraud: the Wirecard scandal. The film was produced in 2020 by Bayerischer Rundfunk (Bavarian Broadcasting) for ARD/First German Television Channel (“Das Erste”). This version has English subtitles.

The documentary explores the rise and fall of the German fintech Wirecard from the perspective of those who saw the collapse coming: so-called short sellers like Fahmi Quadir, Fraser Perring or Marc Cohodes who were betting against Wirecard’s share price for years. The film shows how Wirecard’s critics and journalists of the Financial Times were persecuted by German authorities and how Wirecard’s former CEO Markus Braun and his fugitive COO Jan Marsalek were enabled to cause a damage in the billions.
