A Red Squirrel prepares a freshly fallen Black Walnut for winter storage at 4 times normal speed - it took over 3 minutes in real time. They must be cleaned well or else they'll spoil in the squirrels larder or storage cache. These huge rock- hard shells will still need to be chewed through to get at the nut meat, but in the middle of a cold winter will be a welcome meal. I put out over 250 walnuts for the squirrels to process and store. #wildlife #animallovers
