Five hundred years after the events of the Reformation it appears clearer than ever before that the Reformation would hardly have been as successful as it was if it had not been for music. And today, more than ever, it is the music of the great musicians who were inspired by the Lutheran Reformation – like Heinrich Schütz and Johann Sebastian Bach or Felix Mendelssohn and Johannes Brahms that helps to keep the faith alive in the minds of the wider public. This collection of secular and sacred compositions offers a panoramic view spanning from the music from the days of Luther to his musical heritage up to the late Romantics.
