A group of Wild or feral pigs or hogs is quite a sight -- especially the cute little polka dot piglets! They change the landscape where they dig up the ground looking for food attracting Cattle Egrets and Black Vultures in their wake. They are not called a herd of hogs but typically a sounder of hogs consisting mostly of female sows and their piglets, but there is definitely one male wild boar in this group as you will see. The hogs are of course invasive non-native species and can be quite destructive as I demonstrate in the video. The problem can be traced to 1539 when Hernando DeSoto brought hogs into southwest Florida, and some of them found freedom in the New World. Nearly 500 years later, there are some 3 million descendants of these “pioneer pigs” across the nation.
