Black and White Warbler - The Upside Down Warbler

The stunning black and white warbler is one of a few birds designed to creep up and down trees while foraging for insects like nuthatches.

It is very hard to find and film this bird displaying its classic “upside down” foraging behavior in the wild for any length of time. Being able to look for bugs upside down offers an advantage to find insects in the tree bark that other birds might miss.

A winter visitor to Florida it can be found in the wild at the edges of oak hummocks in the prairie – a straight palm tree trunk is the perfect opportunity to see their classic feeding behavior. They move fast and are hard to see and get on film. Like many warblers – these are birds in a hurry!
