The near constant chip chip calling sounds off a friendly Dark Eyed Junco on it's breeding grounds in the high forest of the Great Smoky Mountains where they are permanent residents. These birds will greet you on a hike as in this case. When breeding is done they will start showing up at feeders and then in Fall migrants will flood the area .
