Eastern Towhees have dark looking eyes and are appear quite red in the proper sunlight. But there are White-Eyed Eastern Towhees that live and breed permanently in Florida and can also be found from southern Alabama through Georgia to eastern South and North Carolina. The typical Eastern Towhee has the distinctive “Drink Your Tea” song, but the song of this male white eyed towhee filmed in the open prairies of interior central Florida is very different. This was filmed during the March mating season on a very windy day which is typical for spring in Florida and this male has picked a conspicuous high place on a bush to sing his distinctive song!
