The liquid nitrogen rocket is an impressively simple and cool science experiment. When you put liquid nitrogen in a PET plastic bottle with water and flip it over, the LN2 rises to the top of the bottle (actually the bottom of the bottle now). The LN2 begins to expand rapidly forcing out the rest of the water in the bottle creating jet propulsion!

For this experiment you need to use PET plastic as it’s shape in more unison (not mended together at a seam) and it’s also more flexible than polycarbonate plastic. It is still possible for a PET plastic container to fail (i.e. blow up in your face) but the chances are much less using this type of plastic.

I will say I was SUPER impressed with the way the new build (adding fins and nose cone) worked! It really did fly straighter and go father than just the regular ole 5 gallon container.
