I saw this photo on twitter (https://twitter.com/autumn_kamrie/status/1164670887032971269) where this ladies Nike Slides had shrunk in her car. So I wanted to see if I could replicate the results… turns out, Nike Slides DEFINITELY shrink in the heat caused by the sun in a closed car. I was pretty shocked to see how much they do in fact shrink.

The pair I tested (size 9 mens) shrunk 1.5 inches (3.81 cm) in total after sitting in my car for 10 days!

After doing some digging I found a research paper that clearly outlined that Slides are made out of a material called EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate).I’m not 100% sure why the foam shrinkis, but if I had to guess it’s because the foam is actually melting and the small air pockets that make the foam are collapsing or condensing into a smaller more compact form of EVA.
