In June 2015, the Berliner Philharmoniker elected Kirill Petrenko to succeed Sir Simon Rattle. During a press conference at the Philharmonie, Petrenko, currently general music director of the Bayerische Staatsoper, has now signed his contract as future chief conductor of the Berliner Philharmoniker – a position that he will take up in 2019. At the same conference it was announced that Andrea Zietzschmann is to become general manager of the Berliner Philharmoniker Foundation in 2017.
