Documentary on the Squirrels of Crater Lake National Park. While camping at Crater Lake National Park last September, 2024 I was naturally drawn to the interesting little Golden Mantled Ground Squirrels that live on the high, steep cliffs, or the crater walls surrounding the amazing Crater Lake. I had seen these cute little squirrels at several other national parks out west and I wanted to film them in detail in such an attractive setting, but not the habituated squirrels begging along the trails right around the lodge and visitor center trails where people feed them, you can film that with your phone, I wanted to film them naturally. Hiking from the lodge up to Garfield Peak the first morning I noticed these ground squirrels had the endearing habit of coming out early in the morning when the light was just right and sitting up on huge boulders to catch some sun and survey their steep domains and also I was pretty much alone early in the morning. So the next morning I had a mission to film them starting their hectic day.
