You'll see why it's called a "Spiketail" - This is the secretive and seldom seen deep forest dwelling Tiger Spiketail dragonfly laying eggs in the mountain spring that makes for a great birdbath and perfect habitat for these amazing dragonflies. Sightings are rare in the true mountains like these Great Smoky Mountains at almost 4 thousand feet elevation. In the last two clips the spike tails seem to be drinking or "bathing" rather than laying eggs. The larvae then develop in the spring for quite some time before emerging as a dragonfly. #insects #nature #wildlife
