Syrian refugee Amer shares a Berlin apartment with 94-year-old Eva. As a girl, Eva was a member of the Hitler Youth. She now lives opposite a German pub, where refugees are viewed with suspicion. Will the encounter with Amer shift their views?
The League of German Girls (BDM) was part of the Nazi-era Hitler Youth movement. It was open to girls from the age of ten; the BDM played a key role in the National Socialists’ plans to shape a new generation of Germans. Eva Sternheim-Peters joined the BDM at the age of ten, later rising to become a leader. Today she shares her Berlin apartment with Syrian refugee Amer Kassab. But not everyone in the neighborhood is welcoming. Eva and Amer’s apartment is across the road from a typical Berlin pub. The regular crowd at the pub are all German, and they often badmouth migrants and especially Muslims. But then Amer - a migrant and a Muslim -- pays the pub a visit. He’s curious to know more about the people who lift a pint there every day. Will their encounter with Amer shift their views?
