An American Kestrel comes in for a landing on its favorite perches 70 feet up at the top of a Cook's Pine Tree. This is a great example of their characteristic tail wagging behavior - it's an easy way to ID this small raptor from a distance. There are a number of reasons for tail wagging, but in this case it is most likely for balance way up there and also to be primed to take off again after large flying insects like dragonflies. #falcon #wildlife
