An Israeli soldier killed a wounded Palestinian attacker in the West Bank city of Hebron in 2016. The incident sparked public debate.
Two young Palestinian men attack Israeli soldiers in the West Bank city of Hebron with knives. One of the attackers is shot dead; the other is wounded, left lying on the ground unable to move. What happened next would spark debate in Israeli society like few other events in the country’s history.
As army medics help a soldier wounded in the attack into an ambulance, one of them, Elor Azaria, suddenly lifts his weapon and shoots the wounded Palestinian in the head. A human rights activist on the site secretly records the event. The then 18-year-old member of the Israeli Defense Forces is later convicted of manslaughter for the execution-style killing by a military tribunal, but is released after spending just nine months behind bars. The documentary shows how his act continues to divide society in the Middle Eastern country. To some, Azaria is nothing more than a murderer. For many Israelis, however, he’s a hero.
