After being born with malformed legs, Isatou Nyang sits in a wheelchair. The Gambian is physically disabled; but she is also a top level athlete. Isatou is hoping to represent her native home The Gambia at the Paralympic Games – for a second time.
At the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, Isatou Nyang became the first female athlete from The Gambia to compete. Despite her physically disability, her athletic talent is beyond doubt. But Isatou is also poor, and in Gambia welfare is hard to come by. As a disabled single mother with two children, her employment options are limited, and she has been forced to support her family through begging for years. But she continues to strive for the top: Isatou Nyang is training to compete in the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo. A report by Dáša Raimanová.
